Alain Poher was a French statesman who served as President of the Senate of France twice, from 1968 to 1992. He was born on April 17, 1909, in Ablon-sur-Seine, France.
Poher was a member of the Union of Democrats and Independents party and was a senator from 1946 to 1995. He also served as interim President of France twice, in 1969 and in 1974.
In addition to his political work, Poher was an academic. He earned a degree in law and a degree in history, and he taught at various universities in France.
Poher died on December 9, 1996, at the age of 87. He was remembered for his dedication to public service and for his contributions to French politics and education.
